Correct support of a radiator using screws bracket and fittings.

Whenever a radiator supporting bracket come away from a wall. Extra weight is added to the connecting pipework.  As a consequence of this damage to the connecting pipework can easily occur.  The correct support for a radiator is important. This starts from the outset of the initial installation.

Radiators are manufactured with a reinforced welded plate secured at the rear. This is in place to accommodate an exact fit to the wall bracket that is designated the radiator.  Metal fatigue of either of these two fixing brackets I’ve yet to see.  Radiator manufactures test radiator metallic fixtures to a high specification, to avoid failure. So whenever a radiator comes away from a wall. It is important to find the actual cause, before proceeding to a solution.

What can be done to avoid a loosen radiator.

Many aspects of plumbing use science. Mass equals volume this as a direct correlation to the weight of a object. A large object will need far more reinforcement than one that carries less weight. A radiator installation is a perfect example of this. An imbalance to weight distribution will contribute towards the loosing of a radiator. Not only should the weight of the radiator considered . But also the addition in weight when its filled with water. Calculations for weight distribution across the brackets are already manufactured. The distance between of each bracket are in place for this. And also the positioning of each screw and the amount used. To many screw holes and the wall will crumble. So if there is not enough, this will leave the installation susceptible to failure.

Always use the appropriate screws to secure a radiator to a wall. Before the installation of a radiator, it is important to choose a wall space. That can offer stability and support for the new installation. The standard screws that come with a radiator will not work well with plasterboard. These thick lengthy bolt like screws need a soiled foundation of stability.

Appropriate support for a radiator installation to plasterboard is specialised. Plasterboard fitting varies in design, they can be plastic or metallic. Or if a radiator is to be installed on a plasterboard. This fitting can be inserted into the plasterboard, and when tightened it will expand. The extended clips open and spreads the load throughout the plaster board.

Why does a radiator become loose.

Here are a few reasons why a radiator will loosen and sometimes leak and come away from a wall.  Not enough or incorrect positioned screws can contribute to weakening. In addition to this, an installation that was once sturdy put has now become loose. Could be the result of damp and deterioration, or overload excessive force added that loosened the radiator. When failure occurs more than likely the screws and brackets will be in tact. However crumbling plaster and deteriorating walls are usually weak points that fail.

Whenever this occurs it is important to it immediately repaired. The configuration of screws and brackets are but in place to restrain weight away from the pipework.  Sudden glut or movement of the connecting pipes will drastically increase the possibility of leakage if this hasn’t already occurred.
