Plumbing in plastic or copper, which one is best?

Plumbing plastic or copper which one is best for use when installing new pipework. Plumbing plastic or copper both have their advantages and disadvantages depending on where there’ being used. Plastic pipes and fittings are most likely found in modern buildings. However, plastic pipes and fittings are commonly used on repairs and upgrades to pipework that has been in place for many years.

Plastic is often criticized for being harmful to the environment, this is mainly because. The time it takes to decompose after we’re finished using it. Plastic can take up 500 years to fully break down and return to nature. However, plastic pipework, unlike other items made from plastic, is not used for short periods and then thrown away. Longevity is a bonus for any plumbing material put in a place for use where it is not surplus or toxic to the environment.

Plumbing in plastic can be much easier than using copper. Plastic pipework is flexible. This may eliminate some bends or extra fittings that help navigate around awkward areas. By using fewer bends saves money time and adds a little restriction to the flow rate. Plastic pipework has less chance of freezing than copper, and because of its flexibility is easier to transport. There is very little chance of anyone removing plastic pipework to sell for scrap.

Plumbing plastic or copper,  Copper is more resistant to higher temperatures than plastic. It is very conductive. This helps to quickly move heat from the boiler to the radiators. Copper can be used on gas or water pipes installed outside, it is also non-corrosive. Copper bends are less bulky than those made in plastic. One advantage of having copper pipes is it can be reused. Old copper can be sold to help cut costs on refurbishments or upgrades.

Why copper and not plastic?

The choice of material is the installer’s preference, whilst still working within the parameters of the current regulations. All plumbing materials have specifications on where they can or should not be used. That is why you will find in new build properties sometimes have a combination of both plastic and copper.For instance, copper pipe installed in high-temperature areas such as near the storage tank, and plastic carrying the main cold supply into the building. On some installations plastic can not be used, however copper has a little more versatility. Areas where there is high water temperatures will not affect copper pipe or a soldier joint, whereas with plastic, there are restrictions. The choice of material is not to suit the installer but to use appropriating to guidelines for the installation.

One of the fascinating properties of copper is the speed of conduction. For this reason, it is the primary source of material used to manufacture electric wire. Earth bond is an electrical procedure put in place to ensure that in the event of an electrical fault. The earth Bond will stop electricity traveling through metallic pipes in a building. The idea is to divert dangerous voltage safely to the consumer unit. Plastic is quite the opposite. It is a bad conductor of electricity. Pipes made of plastic do not need electric bonding. Because plastic is resistant to voltage, that is why it is used to manufacture electrical testing equipment.

Joining a pipe in either copper or plastic should not be attempted unless you are qualified to do so. To successfully soldier, a joint in copper requires a much higher skill level than a joint in plastic. A copper joint needs to be clean and dry, and also inserted at the right depth. Preparation is only the first step toward completing a copper soldiered joint. Other aspects, such as apparatus and implementation of the correct plumbing tools. A plastic joint is a lot more simplistic, however, a curtain level of skill will still have to be apparent. But by compassion, joining plastic pipe is a lot quicker than jointing copper using the traditional method of soldering. For this reason, an installer may opt for the easier option.
